The connection clip can swivel, allowing it to connect to any fixing point (parallel or perpendicular to the net). 

Without a centre strap, you cannot achieve a V shape to your net (you will have a U shape instead).

The V shape is the correct way to set up your net, adding extra tension but using the centre strap to keep it at 3 foot (0.91m) in the centre.
